our sister in mission,
our friend and model by choice,
you hold a special place in our hearts as people dedicated to the Church's missionary service.
Because of your worldwide concern
you were named Patroness of the Missions
and showed us your "little way" to holiness.
From the obscurity of your convent
you accompanied us in our spiritual apprenticeship.
You showed us the superior way of Compassionate Love,
and the "little way" of putting ourselves totally in the hands of the Father.
You taught us that the commitment to mission is rooted in contemplation,
you helped us to see that Love encompasses all vocations,
that Love is everything, that it penetrates everywhere,
that, in fact it is eternal.
With you we have accepted our spiritual solidarity
knowing that your boundless desires
would lead us unwaveringly to our brothers and sisters in the world over.
Dear sister, dear friend, dear model,
you would have liked to be a missionary
from the beginning to the end of the world.
Help us to find our mission within the Church's mission
and to identify our vocation with that of apostles.
Each has his own charisma,
his own way of evangelizing and teaching,
of catechizing and prophesying,
and of bring about God's Kingdom.
But all are asked to do this out of love.
All are invited to act as Jesus did.
All are "commanded" to live according to the Spirit
who is the burning heart of the great body of the Church.
If not, we would not be preaching the Gospel,
we would not giving our lives for others.
We would no longer be true disciples of Jesus Christ.
Dear Teresa, our sister, our friend and model,
share with us your faithfulness to Compassionate Love,
and implant in our hearts a yearning for missionary Church renewal.
Teach us your "little way"
that dares to invent miracles of brotherly love and solidarity.
Support us in our efforts to trust in the divine Will.
Teach us that this confidence is nourished in prayer.
Finally confide us to Mary, Our Mother
that she may watch over each one of us.
The answers to these prayers will be for us the rose petals you promised to drop down from heaven.
They will strengthen us in our vocation as disciples and apostles.
Together with you we will carry on the work of salvation
in which you always wanted to take part.
We will then be worthy to be your brothers and sisters.
We pray you to ask this of Him who was and is the love of your life,
of Jesus whom you espoused and who lives forever.
Michel Fortin, M.Afr.
